About Joining Cheers
About Becoming Part Of Our Community Group…
We are very excited about your desire to get connected to others here in our Cheers Community Group. Our desire is to get to know you, as well. Here’s what we recommend to help new people settle in, build relationships, and become active members of our group:
We call our Sunday morning meeting at 11:00 a.m. our “Hub Meeting.” Attending it regularly is the first step in the process of becoming a member of Cheers. Through your faithful attendance to our Hub Meetings we get a chance to get to know each other and develop friendships. It’s where our commitment to care for each other and help each other grow in Christ is nurtured and demonstrated.
The second step in the process is to start coming to our social and outreach activities that are scheduled outside Sunday mornings. Through these we have more time and opportunity to know and serve each other at greater depth. They are an important part of the life of our community group.
The third step is to join one of our Cheers small groups. The purpose of our small groups to help each other grow in our relationships to God and to one another. They are designed to go deeper into the heart of God through inmate interaction as we commune around the truths of God’s word through prayer, study and soul talk.
We generally don’t encourage people to join one of our small groups until they first become an active part of our Community Group through faithful participation in our Hub Meetings and social/outreach activities for at least two months.
This enables us to get to know you well enough to determine which of our small groups would be the best match for you. Once you’ve completed the first two steps of this process, we encourage you to talk to Bob Broyles, our small group coordinator, about getting plugged into one of our small groups. He’s glad to help you with this.
Every new person that God brings into our Community Group is a gift from him. God uses each to bless and enrich all of our lives. That’s why we’re excited that you’ve decided to join us. We look forward to growing and serving together with you.
